Jaffa

In Tel Aviv we boarded our bus. It was about 11:30am when we got on our way. Having lost a day because of our flight we needed to improvise and so the decision was made to go to Jaffa or Joppa about a half hour away. It is very windy and overcast. 100% chance of rain in the forecast.

After arriving and departing the bus we made our way to the top of a hill. The view was amazing. With the wind blowing so hard it was quite dramatic.

We had a short time of prayer and read from Acts chapter 9 verses 36-43 where Tabitha was raised from the dead after Peter prayed for her. Peter stayed with Simon a tanner in Joppa. We did not get to see the site they have labeled as the Tanners house, but it was off one of these paths.

It was on the roof of Simon's house that Peter received a vision of the sheet being let down from heaven and received his call to preach to the Gentiles. That is in Chapter 10. Tomorrow we go to Caesarea. I need to take notes!

Joppa is known for being a place of, what was the word Glen used, not struggle, but something like that.
The sea was seen as representing chaos, as in the beginning of creation. Today it certainly fulfilled that picture with the roaring waves. It was at Joppa that Jonah fled from God's call to preach to Ninevah, in those waters that God prepared a large fish to swallow him and on these shores where he was finally spat up.
